So you know how every time I feature a shop or brand on the site, I rave about how wonderful it is and how my life must have been lacking before I made such an incredible discovery? Well, I am about to do so again. I have found not only a new interiors store filled with globally-inspired goodness, but a whole new style genre – Scandi-boho. And I love it. Admittedly, it’s not in and of itself that different from many of the house tours and other discoveries I’ve featured on NMC. But I think I’m so taken with it because its the first time I’ve seen my own interiors style described in words. Actual words! Next time someone asks me what my interior style is, instead of mumbling something about being eclectic and trailing off, I can simply reply ‘Scandi-boho’. Hooray!
So, India May Home. Well, wow. I love its aesthetic and as soon as I came across it, I instantly wanted to buy practically every item. The store breaks down its key collections into four main categories – Scandi-boho; Monochrome; Moroccan; and Artisan; although all follow the same style direction and would work equally well mixed up.
As you’d imagine, I adore the Moroccan elements – the lanterns and the silver trays add a bit of global flair to the otherwise Scandi-influence which dominates through fluffy sheepskins, monochrome prints and the overall pared back feel of the collection.
There is also a vast array of bone-inlay pieces which add pearlescent elements and a touch of luxury, especially when mixed with lush greens and fresh blooms. I still can’t quite believe that I don’t own any bone inlay pieces already at home given how much I tend to covet them – something to add to the next wishlist methinks.
The shot above contains a couple of my top picks from India May Home – the large black Moroccan lantern, which I think would add some dramatic, yet sophisticated global style to any living room – and the black wired stool which I am seriously considering investing in. I am in the market for a new dressing table stool after all….
This shot shows off the wired stool a little better – it’s fab, isn’t it!? And its less than £100! Whoop!
My absolute fave on India May Home though has to be the Acapulco inspired chair (also above, but in its naked glory below). You’ll have seen me lust over a similar chair for sale in the US store, the Citizenry, so you can imagine how excited I am to see this one actually for sale in the UK! I also like that this version can be used indoors and outdoors for maximum versatility.
Have you noticed as you’re scrolling through the images on the post how cohesive and put-together the Scandi-boho look is? That’s one the key reasons I really like this store. Its creator and founder, Karen Birchenough, has really identified a clear theme and brand, and has stuck to it throughout. She’s pulled together a ‘hand-picked and carefully curated collection of clean muted palettes and natural textures‘ in her quest to create ‘the new simple in scandinavian meets bohemian styling‘.
“My inspiration comes from a love of travel and nature. I am a boho girl at heart and have always been drawn to the exotic pull of a Moroccan souk or an Indian palace fort. Such embellished beauty is hidden behind every corner, from the carvings on a door to the tiles on the floor. It is an overload of senses that inspire my collection and is the very heart of India May Home” – Owner and Founder of India May Home – Karen Birchenough
And you know what the best thing about India May Home is? It showcases the artisans behind the beautiful pieces on sale in store. That’s a big plus in my book and gives me reassurance that the items on offer are genuinely hand-crafted and one of a kind, and not mass-produced rubbish churned out at maximum price for minimum cost. The chap in the photo above is Sayed Ale Ali – a lifelong artisan at the grand age of 74 – and the maker of a number of pieces, including the Amithi Long Tray table in the photo below.
I would love to know what you think of India May Home. I bet you’re going to love it as much as I do. Did you know that if you sign up to be a VIP you also get 10% off your order plus free delivery? Obviously I have already signed up but what are you waiting for…..!?
Happy travels, and shopping
